• Bus – Stagecoach 2X / 2 run every 15 mins from Morecambe Promenade to Heysham Business Park, alighting at Penrod Way.
• Rail – Morecambe station is 3 mi north; take bus 2X for the last leg. (Heysham Port has only two trains a day.)

3. Cycling / walking

The Bay Cycle Way (NCN 700) hugs the shoreline; turn inland at Ocean Edge for safe bike racks outside the training centre.

1. A683 Bay Gateway roundabout

• Typical slip‑up – selecting the inside lane for the port then cutting across the exit.
• Quick fix – choose lane 2 for the port at the countdown board, hold 25 mph and exit cleanly.

2. Heysham bypass 50 → 40 buffer

• Typical slip‑up – forgetting the buffer before the village cameras.
• Quick fix – cover the brake at the 300 yd sign and aim for 38 mph by the terminal board.

3. Harbour Rd single‑track bend

• Typical slip‑up – failing to give way to outbound HGVs.
• Quick fix – stop at the give‑way board and wait for a clear gap, then proceed in 2nd.

1. About Heysham Test Centre from a Learner’s View

Tucked inside Penrod Way, LA3 2UZ on the Port industrial estate, the centre offers five marked bays. Expect salty sea‑breeze cross‑winds as you pull away toward the Nuclear Power Station access road—a quick test of mirror‑signal‑manoeuvre discipline. For a steady warm‑up, local ADIs recommend the loop around Heysham Port Visitor car‑park.

2. What to Expect on the Day

After the eyesight check you will normally bay‑park first. Independent driving often follows the A683 Heysham link road up to the M6 J34—practise joining a 70 mph dual carriageway from a short feeder lane. Examiners like Moneyclose Lane for the emergency stop because it has clear sight‑lines and little traffic.

3. After You Pass

Most passes are uploaded electronically and the photocard licence arrives within ten days. Book Pass Plus that covers the M6, the winding A65 to Ingleton and the steep A590 to Barrow—routes not covered on test.
